I’ve loved breaout/arkanoids ever since i stood in front of /taitos original back in the 1970′s. It became my favorite arcade genre when games became readily available and even now when I find a new game i download and check it out immediately. I have a decent collection of breakouts from some early ones (that I now play via DOSBox) to some of the latest such as shatter. My favorites are Reflexives Ricochet Infinity, Reaxxion and Acky’s XP Breakout, but there are loads more that i love as well, (too many to name here.
you game is an excellent example of the genre and i’m really going to enjoy working through the levels.
I though I’d make some suggestions either for upgrading your game or for a new build with additional fubctions. These in no way mean i think your gae could do with improving, they are just things i’ve always wanted to see in a single breakout. most of these ideas I’ve seen in one form or another in other breakouts, but never all together. The idea is to create a game that has a lot of replayabilty, (which breakouts always have because no two levels are ever played the same, though these ideas would just put the icing on the cake for me if they were all or most to be implemented into one game.
1) ….. Ability to select what power ups appear in game via the options menu.
2) ….. Ability to increase or decrease the frequency of power ups
3) ….. Include power ups that change the shape of the bat and ball (this would make it harder to work out angles when attempting to aim
4) ….. Include a range of different shooting power ups that increase in power eg simple gun, machine gun, 50 caliber, laser, double gun etc
5) ….. Include other power ups such as ball guns, bouncing balls and cloning balls 9these would clone when hitting clone bricks
6) ….. Include a whole series of special bricks such as a clone brick that when hit clones other bricks randomly, bricks suspended from wires that move when first hit and require several hits before they disappear. Lock and key bricks that have to be hit in sequence, these could also be linked to special hidden levels that are only accessible when certain criteria are met.
7) ….. Have a flying saucer fly across the the middle of the arena (seeing as this is normally a two sided game).
9) ….. Include black holes that cause your ball to swerve from it’s normal trajectory
10) … Include achievements
11) … Add a story-line to the game
12) … Include a greater range of brick shapes and types.
13) … Be able to select different bats and balls each with their own characteristics
14) … Be able to set the time power ups last via the options menu.
15) … Include special levels that have changed rules and are only accessible by attaining certain criteria, for example collecting only certain types of power ups for so many turns, collecting combinations of power ups or attaining specific scores within a set time. These when attained would unlock the special levels which should play differently to the normal game (sort of like having a game within a game. (an example would be a cross between a breakout and a shmup where your ship has to destroy the bricks in a level, but also has to protect itself from alien invaders).
16) … Ensure the graphics were of a high quality.
17) … Collecting combinations of power ups that on their own do nothing, but in combination can be made into several different more powerful versions of power ups depending on how you combine them, that are already present for example a double laser. My idea of a laser is a single shot weapon that destroys a wide swath of bricks say three or four bricks in width.
18) … Enable carry over of special power ups though this could be deselected via the options
I used to have loads more ideas, but my morphine soaked brain has difficulty recalling many of those.
If all or most of the ideas above could be implemented in a single breakout I’d certainly pay top price for it.
All that said I still love your breakout. Thanks for making it freeware.

p.s. You site was linked to via the giveawayoftheday forums. We started a free games project that highlights the better freeware games that are available out on the web. I started the project three years ago in response to the game giveawayofthe day moving to weekends only. I used to post a game (or more) every weekday for almost two years, but got a little tired when hardly anyone bothered to acknowledge the project any more. Several community members have on and off help me continue the project, resulting in a fantastic collection of . the best free games, all linked directly to the developers sites where possible or to the main file sharing sites.
We hope that this helps developers gain visitors who then go on to purchase other games that you may sell on your sites. We have no subscritions and make no money from the project. It was created partly becasue of the lack of a daily giveaway, but also to highlight the quality of free games that were available if only users were willing to look.
